USAID/NIGERIA EAST CONNECTION – Strengthening the capacity of Youth in inter-community exchanges leadership roles and advocacy efforts to address their sense of Marginalization and promote positive roles.

CATAI through the partnership and support of the Nigeria North East Connection funded by USAID on the project “Strengthening the capacity of Youth in inter-community exchanges, leadership roles and advocacy efforts to address their sense of marginalization and promote positive roles”, organized three (3) capacity building trainings and awareness creation on conflict management and violence prevention training to enhance capacity of youths to counter violent extremism and strengthen community resilience against infiltration by VEOs. A civic engagement training for youths and youth groups to identify and develop strategies for engaging civic spaces to promote accountability and good governance, and a Ward-level celebration of International Youth Day to raise awareness on youth charter of demand and sensitize youth and Youth groups on civic engagement, conflict prevention and CVE in Hawul, Kwaya Kusar and Shani LGAs of Borno State Northeastern Nigeria.

CATAI engaged a total of 358 youths and stakeholders from different religious and community backgrounds from 9 communities (Ngilvi, Durkwa and Kwaya Bura, Gashina, Sabongari, Maiba, Shani, Lamur and Angwan Hausawa communities from Hawul, Kwaya Kusar and Shani LGAs respectively. 

Several successes and outcomes were achieved through the activities as action plans were developed to enable the participants to engage in realistic demands and steps to be included in decisions that affect them and prevent violent extremism, especially during electoral processes.
