CATAI/ACTIONAID STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT SPA II

In July 2022, CATAI partnered with ActionAid Nigeria under the SPA II Project which is a multi-country intervention under a Strategic Partnership Agreement with ActionAid Denmark and Funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA). In line with the project strategic objectives and approved work plan within first quarter of the implementation of the multi-year program of the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA II), the Centre for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI) has continued to implement activities across the BAY states in Nigeria. CATAI conducted series of key activities targeting youths and youths’ groups, associations, government agencies, and critical stakeholders in a view to addressing vital underlying issues of governance in creating democratic spaces and climate change within the BAY state.

CATAI is working with key stakeholders to Improve the realization of basic human and democratic rights, and spaces and improve sustainable livelihoods, resilience, and protection for young people, especially young women living in affected areas. The decade of insurgency in the BAY state has been a limiting factor for youths in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe to consider governance as a priority due to the prevailing Humanitarian needs. CATAI conducted a one-day activity in commemoration of the International Youth Day 2022 at El-Kanemi Hall, Maiduguri Borno State Nigeria. As a result of the activity, young people from different background came together and were able to identify challenges and needs faced, where the youth demand charter was developed and co-signed by relevant stakeholders to further action.

CATAI engaged several women led organizations, youth led organizations, religious leaders, students and CSOs within the state, representative of people with disabilities and government stakeholder where it strengthened the capacity participating on conflict sensitivity management, conflict resolutions and mainstreaming conflict sensitivity into programming, conducted mega campus rally and a day workshop/ lecture at the Borno State University campus on civic engagement, voter awareness and sensitization on collection of PVC, significance of participating in the electoral process and political decision to ensure responsive accountable and democratically elected government. 

CATAI in partnership with Al-Ansar Radio under the SPA II project produced 3 episodes of radio and video programs using local languages of Hausa and Kanuri, the videos aimed at increasing awareness to youths on the importance of youth participation in the electoral cycle and budget cycle across the state.
